Engelberg - Titlis Attractions

Rhine Waterfalls
A visit to the Engelberg-Titlis region must always include a day trip to the Rhine waterfalls, the biggest falls in Europe. Visitors will be amazed by the cascades, flowing at the average rate of 700 cubic meters a second. The cataracts are 23 m high and 150 m wide. An interesting destination in this region is the town of Stein am Rhein. It features medieval houses with an atmosphere of unperturbed tranquility at the backdrop. This town is typified by brightly painted facades, magnificent beamed houses, secluded corners and a pleasant riverside promenade. The Rhine River leaves Lake Constance near this town. Attractions in Stein am Rhein include Lindwurm Museum of Architecture and the Phonograph Museum, among others.

Zurich
Zrich is 95 km away from Engelberg. There is much to see and do in this city. It is the biggest city in Switzerland with an urban population of 1,091,732. It is the hub of commerce and culture in the country, just like Bern is the hub of politics. This cosmopolitan city has the highest living standard in the world according to a survey in 2006. Attractions in Zrich include the Great Minster, located in the historical quarter of Zrich near the lake, the Barengasse Museum, chronicling the city's 18th century history, and Kunsthaus Zrich, featuring one of the world's biggest Classic Modern Art collections. The last includes works by Picasso, Giacometti and other renowned artists.

Interlaken
Interlaken is a popular tourist destination at the heart of Switzerland near the Alps, 86 km away from Engelberg. The Aare River runs through the town, which nestles between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. Despite the fact that it has just 5 200 inhabitants, the town has excellent rail and bus connections to destinations throughout the region. The main attraction is the splendid Jungfrau, rising to a full 4 158 m. The town itself has an altitude of 570 m. It was once the site of an Augustinian convent, which was built in 1130 and remained there until 1528. Today tourism is the most important income source, as compared to textile production and watchmaking in the past.
