Jungfrau Region Attractions

Aletsch Glacier
One of the best-known attractions in the Jungfrau region is the Aletsch Glacier, classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is 23 km long, which makes it the biggest glacier in the Alps. There is a bigger one on the Scandinavian peninsula. Aletsch Glacier starts at Jungfraujoch. There is a panoramic view of the whole glacier from the Eggishorn. In fact, the Aletsch consists of three glaciers the Eveehneuelt (right), the Aletsch (left) and the Jungfrau vein. The three join at Concordia, where the glacier moves at over half a meter daily (200 m a year).

Wetterhorn Rises
The limestone wall of the Wetterhorn rises a full 1300 m from the meadows of Grindelwald Valley. The route passes through Gleckstein Hut and Krinnen Glacier before one reaches the Wetterhorn glacier. The terrain is mixed scree, snow and rock. The summit of the glacier is at an altitude of 3701 m. Climbers reach it after covering a final steep and snowy stretch. The cliffs drop down to Grindelwald valley right below the summit. You can see the three famous alpine glaciers the Eiger, the Monch and the Jungfrau to the west of the summit.

Lake Bachalp
Lake Bachalp is a pleasant stroll away from the station above Grindelwald. Some people prefer to continue on to Faulhorn from Lake Bachalp. You need hiking shoes if you are going to do this. The route is not difficult, but the terrain gets steep at times. The lake offers an incredible view of the surroundings. It is recommended you start early, because the path to the lake gets very crowded. You can go on a long trip - first to Bachalpsee, then to Faulhorn and finally down to Bussalp. This will take about 5 hours, but it is definitely worth it.

Lake Brienz
Lake Brienz is located in the Swiss canton of Bern to the north of the Alps. There are no shallow ends in the lake and the shores are very steep. The river Aare flows through, joining Lake Thun after leaving Lake Brienz. Towns and villages in the area of the lake are Brienz, Interlaken, Unterseen and Matten. This lake has an unforgettable natural setting and offers a vast array of attractions with unlimited possibilities for sport and recreation throughout the year. The alpine region of Brienz-Meiringen-Hasliberg is one of 27 vacation resorts in Switzerland to have received the seal of approval from the Swiss Agency of Tourism.

Lake Thun
Lake Thun is located in the Bernese Highlands in Switzerland north of the Alps. It was named after the city of Thun on the north bank of the lake. Lake Thun was formed after the last Ice Age. In the distant past Thun and Brienz lakes were one. Recreational possibilities here include biking, hiking, a variety of water sports, canyoning, rafting and sky sports in summer and skiing, Nordic walking and snowboarding in winter. You can take a bike tour around Lake Thun and embrace the beauty of nature. There are 360 km of marked biking routes in the area.
