The Grand St. Bernard Pass
The Grand St. Bernard Pass is the best-known and the oldest pass of all crossings in the Alps. Archaeologists have found evidence that it was used by emperors, knights and simple merchants long before the birth of Christ. Iserables
When in the area of Matterhorn valley, a visit to the ancient town of Iserables is simply mandatory. This town rises up from an incredibly steep slope, dropping 1,000 meters down into the valley below. You can feast your eyes on architecture characteristic of the area, such as special columns, barns built upon stone discs and old stone-shingled mazots. Iserables is located 85 km away from Grachen.
Sion
The town of Sion, 67 km away from Grachen, boasts an interesting historical attraction the Church of Our Lady of Valere. This is among the few old buildings in Switzerland that have not been renovated to perfection it appears as if it has not been touched since the time it was built. You will find objects from the 14th, 16th and 17th centuries inside. There is an organ, widely considered to be the oldest playable organ in the world, which dates from the 1300s. Other items of interest include fragments of 16th century murals, antique carvings and 17th century frescoes with scenes of the Passion.
