Hunegg Castle
Hunegg castle is located in the village of Hilterfingen, just 4.5 km away from Thun. The interior of the castle features century-old furniture. It has not been altered in any way since 1900. Constructed in 1863, the castle lies amid a splendid wooded park. It was commissioned as the aristocratic residence of Baron von Parpart.


Wine-making Museum
There are many notable museums in the area, of which the Heritage and Wine-making Museum in Thun merits special mention. The building of the wine museum was completed in 1728. It has a traditional wine press, a farmhouse garden and a granary. You will step into a characteristic Swiss farming household, complete with living rooms and a kitchen. There is a display about work in the cellar and vineyard, as well as a chronicle of local events and how they are connected to wine growing.


Sarner Cristal AG
The Thun lakeside region boasts the only crystal glassworks facility in the country. The Sarner Cristal AG glassworks is located in the town of Uetendorf, 5.5 km away from Thun. You can watch the skilled glass blowers at work every day during working hours. This will make for a great family trip if you are taking your kids along. The production formula is secret, but you will learn everything else about the art of glassmaking. There is also a fascinating glassworks exhibit, presenting the full range of glass products.


Planetarium in Halten
Another great option for families is to visit the first observatory in the country traversed by wheelchair, Sternwarte Planetarium in Halten, a town 60 km away from Thun. This is a workshop, a museum and a school all in one. It has 70 places, interactive displays and state-of-the-art technology. You can observe the sun from the terrace through a direct projector.


Castle of Thun
The majestic castle of Thun dates back to the late 1100s. The massive rooftop dates from 1430. The castle museum consists of five floors dedicated to the cultural development of the region over four millenniums. You will visit the fascinating Knights' Hall and the section of excavations containing ceramics from Heimberg and other curiosities.


Military School
A military school was established in Thun in 1819, which later became the main military school in the country. The biggest garrison in Switzerland is located in Thun as well. The Swiss Department of Defense ordered the city to establish a collection of army materials, which can be seen in the Swiss Army Museum on the military base of Thun. It offers displays of uniforms, battle tanks, machine guns and other items chronicling the historical development of the Swiss army. There are over 100 000 objects in total.
