Adelboden is a municipality in the Bernese Oberland (Bernese highlands - the higher part of the canton of Bern, situated in the South of the canton). It lies in the west of the Bernese Oberland, on the border of the valley of the Engstligen river, and has a population of about 3600 people. A mountain village situated on a terrace looking south to the Engstligen waterfalls, it comprises also the inhabited valleys of Gilbach, Stigelschwand, Ausserschwand, Boden and Hirzboden. The highest point of the area is the Grossstrubel towering at 3242 m, while the lowest point is on 1045 m in the Engstligen valley. Vegetation is alpine and sub-alpine, partially wooded, the slopes, the plateaus, and terraces being alp meadows. Thanks to its high elevation, wide variety of pistes and safe snow conditions, Adelboden-Frutigen is counted as one of Switzerland’s top ski resorts.

56 efficient transport facilities serve more than 180 kilometers of piste network, making Adelboden one of the largest and most beautiful skiing centres of the Swiss alps.

Annually in winter there are held ski runs of all degrees of difficulty, including cross country skiing trails, the world cup giant slalom and slalom run on the Kuonisbärgli. Further available there are 40 km of winter hiking trails. For snowboarders there are freestyle and freeride runs.

What is more, you can go for a magical winter ramble on the Adelboden sun terrace. Walking paths and sledging tracks invite everyone to discover the alpine winter world, while a number of mountain hostelries provide the perfect place to spend a few pleasant hours in convivial company.
