Maloja

Maloja is a village situated in the Engadine valley (a long mountain valley situated in the canton of Graubünden in southeast of Switzerland). Maloja is Italian-speaking. It counts 310 residents. At 1,815 meters of elevation, Maloja connects the Bregaglia and the Engadine. Thanks to its geographical location, it’s, in all of Switzerland, one of the vacation places most likely to have snow. The village is the starting point of the renowned Engadine Ski Marathon and a perfect base for winter hikers, cross-country ski enthusiasts, skiers, snowshoers snowboarders, tobogganing fans and just ski-tourists. Amidst the majestic mountain scenery and the unique expansiveness of the snowy lake plateau, guests will find rest and relaxation, as well as a selection of cultural and sports activities. Maloja is the only village from the upper Engadine valley to have been awarded the "Families Welcome" prize by the Swiss Tourism Organization. In winter, Ski Sports School Maloja (snowboard, downhill ski- and cross-country skischool) organizes a diverse entertainment program to suit tastes of both young and old.

The village offers Piz Aela: a guaranteed-to-be-snowy family ski area, with a ski lift to 2 200 m of elevation and two tow lifts (1800 m of elevation) - the insider tip for snowboard powderfreaks. Besides, public transport takes you to over 60 mountain transport/ski lifts and 350 km of ski pistes in the entire upper Engadine region. The village and its vicinity also offer 150 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, as well as access to the Engadine Ski Marathon start and route, 120 kilometers of winter-hiking trail network, 3 toboggan runs and plenty of snowshoe trails through untouched nature.

And if you are not tired, you can go to the natural ice rink with floodlights which offers superb conditions for ice skating, ice hockey as well as Bavarian curling.
