Located 30 kilometres east of Lucerne on the shores of Lake Lucerne, Weggis is a picturesque resort village, sheltered by the Swiss Alps, with around 3,900 residents. It lies on the sunbathed side of Mount Rigi and boasts a pleasant mild climate, making some subtropical species of vegetation grow in the area, such as magnolias, figs, and palms. It is the first harbour for ships from Lucerne, but it is also easily accessible by the international St. Gotthard train route. Many hiking trips are possible from spring to fall. Weggis has been a popular summer destination for hundreds of years. Interestingly, the national team of Brazil trained there for the 2006 World Cup.
