Overlooking the Lake Lucerne and located at the foot of Rigi, called “Queen of the Mountains,” Weggis has all the best features of a Swiss summer resort, including mild microclimate enabling tropical plans to grow and impress with their beauty. The town's history dates back to 9th century, so there are several notable sights worth recommendation. Rich culture and numerous events make Weggis a popular destination, second only to Lucerne in the whole canton. As it has a well-developed infrastructure and provides tourist attractions, it simply is a perfect choice for active summer holidays in the picturesque scenery. Since 1919 it has been a bathing resort, but it also offers winter activities.

Summer activities
Favourable location of the resort encourages to practise many summer activities, above all hiking up to Mount Rigi, 1,800 metres above the sea level, where you can also get by a cable car from Weggis to Rigi-Kaltbad and then with the cog railway up to Rigi Kulm. Moreover, biking, horse back riding and multiple water sports are popular activities. Swimming in the clear waters of the Lake Lucerne shall be a pure pleasure, but you can also attend the pool in Lido. Boat rides to Lucerne are a popular pastime, taking up to 45 minutes. On the other hand, you can devote a whole day and take a ride on a steam boat, visiting pretty villages of Brunnen, Rütli, and Vitznau set along the lake. From other sports you can choose billiard, tennis, table tennis or volleyball. There are also fishing trips and group guided walks organised, including treasure hunts and camp fires especially meant for children.

Winter activities
Mount Rigi with all its sport facilities makes Weggis a popular winter destination for cross-country skiers, attracting also snowboarders and alpine skiing beginners. The heated cog railway that can take you up to the mountain is another advantage. There is a rental centre at the peak station, offering you – apart from traditional equipment – toboggans, airboards, snow shoes and Nordic walking poles. The toboggan run has three routes and a total length of 7,700 metres, and you can not only have fun there, but also enjoy the spectacular scenery. If the weather is fine, you can take advantage of a natural ice ring. A tip for advanced skiers would be a one-day trip to Titlis – Rotair (3020 metres), which is called the Glacier Paradise.

There is still much more you can expect from this lovely resort on the “Riviera of Central Switzerland.” No matter what time you choose for your holidays, there will be something going on in the village, be it the Heirassa Festival of Swiss folk music at the beginning of June, or the famous Rose Festival on the first weekend of July, and other annual events. The whole region of Weggis-Vitznau-Rigi is also known as the spa centre, offering you relaxation at the highest level. Apart from that, after an active day, you will be tempted to spend a pleasant evening in one of the local restaurants. It will be a pleasure to sit on the lakeside terrace and taste fresh market delicacies and fish specialities. It's worth mentioning that Weggis was appreciated by Mark Twain who called it “the charmingest place we have ever lived in for repose and restfulness, superb scenery whose beauty undergoes a perpetual change from one miracle to another.”
