Engelberg (1020 metres of elevation) is a municipality in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland. It counts a population of 3600 of which 600 are of foreign nationality. It is the leading mountain resort in central Switzerland. Located at the southern end of the rail line and valley road from Stans in an enclave within Canton Obwalden, Engelberg boasts an excursion to the highest point in central Switzerland – a station at 3028m of elevation, just below the distinctive crest-of-a-wave peak of the Titlis mountain (3239m of elevation). This, along with the village’s big Benedictine monastery and the grandeur of its hotel architecture, make the resort well worth a visit.

Ski between 1’000 and 3’000 metres of elevation. 24 transport installations and 82 kilometres of runs offer ideal skiing enjoyment on blue, red and black slopes in the regions Brunni and Titlis – Joch Pass.

Titlis (1050 m – 3020 m of elevation) offers spectacular views and superb runs. Fantastic ski region with plenty of diverse runs for every level of skiing ability. On the longest run (from Titlis to Engelberg), a difference in altitude of 2000 metres is achieved in 12 kilometres.

Brunni (1600 m – 2040 m.) lies on the sunny side of Engelberg. A sunny, surveyable ski region. Perfect to beginners, groups and families. The Yeti-Park is very suitable for kids skiing for the first time.

The major sight of the village is the huge Benedictine monastery. The first monks arrived in the valley around 1120, and in the Middle Ages the monastery played a central role for the expansion of ascetic mysticism in Germany and Switzerland. The Rococo church, dating back to 1730, is amazing – a huge, elegant, light space complete with nine altars. Guided tours of the entire complex, including the church and several impressive halls within the monastery, are available year-round.
