Nestled next to Zermatt, Saas-Fee is one of four interconnected villages at the end of the Saas valley in South Switzerland. Magnificent environment surrounds the area, starting from the array of thirteen 4000m-plus peaks around Saas-Fee (including the famous Matterhorn), to the giant glaciers like Feegletscher. The village itself is settled amongst verdant meadows and its unique atmosphere was the reason Carl Zuckmayer, the German famous author and also a honorary citizen of Saas-Fee, to announce: “If I can’t stay at Saas-Fee it is only half a day for me. My life is only complete here"said the German book writer Carl Zuckmayer once. You can reach Saas-Fee by bus coming from Brig and passing through Saas Balen, Saas Grund, then Saas-Fee itself (which is car-free). Saas Almagell remains a few kilometres down the valley. Once you get there, you will be provided excellent ski conditions with nearly 50 miles of downhill trails, divided between beginner, intermediate and expert. The Felskinn/ Mittelallalin area is the most popular section of Saas-Fee’s, well-connected by several lifts but the main route up the mountain can be taken via the Alpin Express, the highest underground metro alpin, which leads to the top of the Mittelallalin (3500m). Marvellous panorama is available at the top, where you can stop to enjoy the stunning views of 4,000 peaks. A giant ice pavilion offers a drink and snack for stop-by, where detailed explications of the workings of glaciers are available. Egginer ski area is another delightful option for the strong intermediates, whereas experts have a challenge on the Kanonenrohr and Bach trails. Finally, you can catch the last sun rays at Plattjen (8,430 feet,) resulting in a run with about a 2,500-foot vertical drop and longer runs going down to the village. Interesting fact is that summer skiing is also possible in the resort, with the new lifts taking you up to glaciers at 11,811 feet above sea level. Snowboarders also have their area in the year-round snowboarding park on the Mittelallalin glacier, offering halfpipes, quarterpipes, rails, gaps and a triple kicker line for professionals. For the cross-country fans, there are 32 kms of trails, passing through forests and also trails along the beautiful Vispa River.

For non-skiers a wide range of activities is available. Tourists can choose from the various hiking routes, as some of which pass between the peaks into the Matter valley, and other 30km of trails set above the village. Toboggan run is another fun activity available there and if you finally decide to take a peaceful walk in Saas-Fee, you can take a look at the shops and boutiques, based on the several quaint lanes, leading down into the village. If curious about the local traditions, Saaser Museum offers photographs of the old Saas valley, traditional furniture and old tools of mountain people. Those that prefer indoor activities can attend the Bielen sports and leisure center, featuring facilities like heated swimming pool, tennis court, billiards and table tennis, fitness room. Wellness services include whirlpools, steam bath and sauna.
