Skiing in Davos

One of the pearls in the Swiss resort crown is Davos. Situated in southeastern part of the country, near the border with Switzerland, Davos is at 145 km from Zurich (the nearest international airport).
The ski season lasts from November to April.

It is famous for the place where the first sirface lift in the world opened in the early 1930s. Davos is one of the leading ski resorts in the world, because of its long tradition and the constant innovations in facilities and service. The city has well developed summer season, the annual World Economic Forum is held there and is also place where a number of classy medical institutions have branches.

The superlativization of resorts is a subjective thing, but as far as statistics are concerned, probably the highest number of people define Davos as "one of Europe's most unique Alpine resorts."

The settlement spreads down a valley floor for about 10 km - its western part is called Davos Platz, and the eastern one - the Davos Dorf.

The resort offers 305 km (!) of ski runs. It is divided into sub-regions - Parsenn, Pischa, Jakobshorh, Rinerhornand Madrisa (some of them are connected by lifts.) The most popular and the largest is Parsenn. The neighbouring resort Kosters is a traditional destination for holiday of the British Royal family.

Because of the enormous popularity of the place, even the 57 lifts present here are sometimes a bit crowded and, hence, you might have to wait a bit in a queue.

On the other side of town there are ways up the Jakobshorn, fun place of Davos.
Most of the ski areas are reached by funiculars or cable cars.
The majority of the skiing is done above the treeline and above 1800 meters.

Most of the trails are red and blue but experts will find several off-piste routes, including an 18 km descent to Fideris and the chance to ski up to Arosa.

The apres-ski activities are more diverse and related to international tourists than you would expect, but hey! this is one of the top resorts of the world, there is no other choice. It has to be offering opportunities; nowadays resorts should prove their image and fame with every season, with every day even. And so far Davos has been one of the most unbeatable!
