Skiing in Zermatt

In Zermatt you have so much options that you wouldn't know what to choose. and a winter holiday is never enough to explore all the opportunities a resort like Zermatt gives. It is below the Matterhorn.

Skiing there is all year round.

You can get there from Zurich or from Geneva (from both locations the distance is appr. 250 km). Contrary to what one might expect, at Zermatt it is easier to ski in the higher parts of the slopes, and at the foot, the lower regions are much more of a challenge for the skier. The numerous valleys of Schwarzee. The resort is comprised of two areas - Cornegrat and Sunnenga. You can reach Cornegrat with the famous "Alpine Metro" which will surprise you with its speed. There are no cars, but electric, so that the pure air is not mixed with unpleasant and harmful odours. (You can park up to the villages Visp or Tasch).

There are as many as 28 peaks surrounding the village, which makes it so picturesque, that if you forget your camera, it will be really a pity. There are ski runs of all 4 types. The highest point from which you can ski, the Stockhorn is at 3540 m.

The total length of the ski runs is 150 km, there are 10 km of cross country, and of course snowboarders are thought of. There is a wonderful snow park called Rotenboden - where loud music plays, and snowboarders can have the utmost fun with tables, halfpipe, quarter, bumps, powder snow. There is kids' corner; a very big igloo and a tepee bar, which contribute to create unique atmosphere. You can get to Rotenboden park from Gornergrat via run 9f.

You can also ride a sledge if you have a flair for this groovy winter sport.

Rated as one of the best resorts in the world, and definitely in the top-five for Switzerland, Zermatt is simply a winter dream turned into reality. There are high quality shops, restaurants and hotels with word-class off-slope leisure facilities. Despite that it is visited by thousands of tourists, the village is calm and clean.

A skier who claims to have experienced the best in this sport, should not miss Zermatt in any way.
