Wengen

Wengen is one of the most attractive alpine villages in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. Ideally situated in the ski centre Kleine Scheidegg – Männlichen, it lies at the foot of the gorgeous Jungfrau mountain range and is famous with its Lauberhorn and Eigergletscher runs. Wengen is the host of the International Lauberhorn Downhill ski race, the most spectacular race of the whole world cup circuit, as well as slalom races. Summer hiking tours are also a sporty highlight of the region and Wengen is one of the places where passes the toughest marathon in the world - the international Jungfrau Marathon, organized in early September. Besides the sport activities and events, held there, the car-free Wengen has a tranquil ambience and sunny orientation, thus very suitable for families and people, looking for relax.

Set at an altitude of 1300 m, Wengen is one of Switzerland's premiere ski resorts in the Swiss Alps, with a direct access to 112km of downhill pistes connected by 19 ski lifts. As a part of the Jungfrau Top ski area, the resort is excellent for all kind of abilities – beginners, intermediates and expert skiers. Skiing is possible at an altitude above 2000 metres and that is why the snow cover is reliable until the end of April. There is a snow park equipped with many facilities for extreme adventures, highly evaluated by the snowboard followers. Once the snow has melted, Wengen turns into an ideal hiking area and starting point to the majestic Jungfrau and Silberhorn ridges. The cleared paths for walkers pass through spectacular scenery at the alpine region and connect Wengen to the other villages and valleys, such as the Lauterbrunnen Valley, where stunning panoramic views are available. By an organized hiking tour, you can visit the other tourist resorts and villages in the area, like Leukerbad renown for the activities it offers and the summer clown festival. Via the railway and cable-car system, you can go to the picturesque villages in the region like Murren, Lauterbrunnen, Arosa, Andermatt Resort, Champery, Beatenberg, Davos Platz and Davos Dorf.

Many other sport activities are available in the Wengen mountain resort and surroundings. By a train ride, you can reach Jungfraujoch - the Top of Europe, which is the highlight of the Swiss holidays with its altitude of 3454 m. Sleigh rides with husky dogs are organized there and it is highly appreciated by alpinists, who use the "Joch" as a starting point for memorable and exciting tours. For the non-skiers there are five tennis courts, ice-skating rings and many activities, such as tobogganing, mini golf and access to open-air swimming pools, sauna and solarium in many hotels. For the entertainment of the visitors, Wengen offers amusements like cinema, summer concerts and folklore shows.
